                                     System Administrator

MSAG in support of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center has an immediate opportunity for a Linux Systems Administrator to support the hardware and software infrastructure for the infrastructure of Federal Aviation Administration projects. This position requires an individual knowledgeable in VMWare and capable of supporting various systems administration tasks in the areas of software upgrades/patches, networking and security to maintain the operational integrity of the infrastructure.
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair
  • Applies appropriate support packages/patches to maintain system integrity
  • Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation
  • Interacts with customers to answer questions, problems and requests regarding system issues
  • Data collection from archives
  • Diagram creation (Visio)
  • Web site modifications
  • Storage array management
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field and 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to take and follow direction
  • A desire to learn new technologies, the drive and interest to solve operational issues, and the ability to take on new challenges
Technical Qualifications
  • Linux knowledge
  • Shell scripting (bash, csh, Perl, etc.)
  • System monitoring/troubleshooting
  • VSphere/VMWare environment knowledge
  • VM Guest OS installation (RHEL/CentOS)
  • Yum network repository configuration
  • Security patch installation (from repository and offline build)
Nice to have
  • Java coding
  • Messaging services (ActiveMQ)
  • Distributed filesystems (HDFS)
  • Cloud administration (AWS)
  • Basic knowledge of SQL

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skill to interact with customers and team members
  • Good communication skills to interact with team members and support personnel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong discipline and organizational skills to take ownership of the systems
