MSAG is seeking a candidate to serve as a Senior Civil Engineer for airfield pavements in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Airports, Airport Safety and Standards Division, AAS-100. The successful candidate should be knowledgeably with AC 150/5320-5, Surface Drainage Design; AC 150/5320-6, Airfield Pavement Design and Evaluation, and AC 150/5370-10, Standard Specifications for Construction of Airports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as a Senior Civil Engineer for airfield pavements in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Airports, Airport Safety and Standards Division, AAS-100.
Apply civil engineering principles as they relate to the development of standards, specifications, criteria, and guidelines for airport pavement design, construction and techniques, quality control, maintenance, and management.
Conducts advanced engineering studies to determine the effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of established and proposed airport pavement projects; analyzes and evaluates information, identifies current or potential problems, develops methods to reduce cost or improve productivity/response or similar positive changes or required revisions.
Evaluates local exceptions to pavement construction standards to achieve the best pavement product for the cost. Provide expert knowledge and writing skills to support the FAA with the update of assigned FAA Advisory Circulars (AC) and Engineering Briefs (EB).
Adjudicate comments from industry, airport engineers, airport sponsors, Air Traffic Organization, Flight Standards, and legal counsel. on changes to AC’s and new EB’s Interact occasionally with other FAA organizations, other government agencies, and aviation industry interest groups., resolve or mitigate issues when possible, and provides orally or in writing, detailed recommendations for consideration.
Support research in pavement technology.
Support the review of Modification of Standards (MOS) requests Help to evaluate trends on types of MOS submissions and recommend solutions to minimize MOS submissions.
Support the preparation of briefings on new airport design, pavement criteria and Airports Division programs, policies and guidance.
Must have bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other related field
Wil be working with AAS-100 should be very familiar with three advisory circulars as indicated on FAA website: https://www.faa.gov/airports/engineering/pavement_design/
