Web Developer/Designer
Candidate will support the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, located in Cambridge, MA, with expertise in designing user interfaces for web applications using state of the art web development tools. The qualified candidate will be a key contributor in working with developers and web application architects to design applications using standard guidelines and design components with a mix of creativity and application design knowledge. The position requires a familiarity with design compliance with the WCAG web design standards.  The candidate will work closely with development teams to ensure common usability standards in line with various usability standards.
Essential Job Functions
  • Develops high quality work products in support of the project's goals; own the Usability Design aspects of the development process
  • Participates as an integral part of the design team and develops User Interface artifacts and component, screen prototypes, including content management templates, help system, personas, and scenarios
  • Works with the developers to develop story boards, prototypes, and presentations along with an integrated final product
  • Provides the customer base with second level support
  • Assists  and support project personnel in resolving moderately complex program problems; works with client and management to resolve issues and validate programming requirements within their areas of responsibility
  • Develop Web/UI development standards and creates and maintains style guides
  • Remains abreast of industry design and usability trends and standards, including Section 508 and/or WCAG standards for web interface guidelines as they evolve
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's degree in business administration, mathematics, engineering, management information systems, computer science or related field preferred
  • Hands on experience  in HTML5, CSS3, XML, JavaScript, and other W3C standards
  • Experience of modern JavaScript Frameworks like Angular 2 Plus or React.js
  • Design experience using Adobe Illustrator, Sketch or similar tools
  • Public Trust is required
Other Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) including formal and Agile development methodologies on varying size projects
  • Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with senior customers, management and team members
  • Ability to synthesize broad and narrow concepts of high complexity and use them to meet company objectives
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
